Gebroken verleden / Gebrochene Vergangenheit
The Dutch director Leendert Pot travels through the Czech Republic, Austria and Cermany to get to know his mother's life. He knows little about her past. She doesn't want to talk about it, let alone cooperate on this film.In an associative journey the director meets people who are connected to her history. For the first time he speaks with his aunt Eva and uncle Rainer.
BROKEN PAST shows how different people react to and look back upon personal and political events. The shards of a life fragmented by his mothers need to constantly begin a new eventually fall into a larger mosaic.
The film confronts us with the question of whether you can suppress the past by keeping silent.
